La ricerca dell’autore pontino Matteo Del Vecchio, realizzata dal 2021 al 2023, mette al centro Ventotene, l’isola meravigliosa e fragile che ha resistito nel tempo e che il tempo erode. È proprio il tempo a suggerire all’autore una riflessione: in che direzione sta andando l’Europa sognata dai confinati del 1941? Un interrogativo che si riflette nelle storie ascoltate dai Ventotenesi e nel dialogo con se stesso in un ritorno ad essere “isola”, domandandosi quanto l’erosione subita da Ventotene sia il simbolo di movimenti che risuonano nel presente.

From 2021 to 2023, Matteo Del Vecchio, a photographer from the Pontine region, focused on Ventotene, a beautiful and fragile island that has resisted time—but is slowly being eroded by it. Time itself inspired his reflection: where is the Europe dreamed of by the 1941 political exiles heading today? This question echoes through the stories shared by Ventotene’s residents and through the artist’s own introspective journey back to becoming an “island”—asking how the island’s erosion may symbolize larger shifts unfolding in our world today.
